In order to provide some motivation to users (we could all use some) to contribute to the user extensions, I will be giving a free single-user GWT-Plus license to a users that create an extension.

Rules of the contest are :

1. Pick an Ext user extension from the list below, and respond to this message indicating that you are working on it (so that work is not duplicated).

2. If the extension you're interested in porting is not in the list below, let us know before you start working on it. This is so that we can ensure the library you are wrapping has the appropriate license, and is something of interest to others.

3. You must join the gwt-ext-ux project as a committer, and commit all the required code.

4. The API must be complete, along with Javadocs, and examples. You would need to add the examples to the GWT-Ext UX Showcase demo.

5. The GWT-Ext UX project is licensed under BSD (most liberal) so you agree to making your contributions under this license.

Here are the list of Ext user extensions that I think will be a valuable addition. Feel free to add to this list.

- DONE LiveGrid : http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17791
Upto 3 users can work on this together, and you'll each receive a GWT-Plus License

Color Picker : http://extjs.com/learn/Extension:Yui_Color_Picker

- ManagedIframe : http://extjs.com/learn/Extension:ManagedIframe

I will be glad to help if you have any questions creating your extension.

Thanks,
Sanjiv

hmm, it appears you can add this functionality using GWT-Ext itself. Was there a particular feature you were interested in?

Sanjiv, (an everybody out there)

There are so many good plugins and examples (I have a whole folder named examples-2) that extend current functionality from the ext forums, now my question is as far as implementing those in GWT-Ext is:

Should we use the original javascript files (as in RowLayout and MultiSelector and ItemSelector) which have already been developed and tested in javascript and provide a "wrapper" in GWT-Ext in java OR migrate the source code to java therefore creating additional work AND forcing the synchronization with any additional changes, bug fixes, enhancements made to the original javascript solution by others or the original author.

I'm just trying to find a direction as to where to take already made changes and enhancements in javascript that make up the Ext forum examples, extensions and plugins sections

Thanks
JP

Hi JP,
Good questions. Here's my thinking :

For Ext extensions developed and maintained by the original author, I feel that we should just wrap them as we get enhancements and fixes for free.

For newly developed plugins, we will have the ability to write plugins in Java. I am going to add the ability to apply "plugins" to Components in order to customize them, or use them as reusable Components. I am targeting to have this in the next release.

My basic thinking is that Ext is huge, arguably larger than the GWT community in terms of number of users, forum activity, and widgets and we should maximize our leverage with the goal of being most productive using the solid foundation GWT provides and focus on getting the job done.

With the above options at our disposal I feel we'll have the best of both worlds.

Sanjiv
